We lift boats for all kinds of maintenance and repairs; everything from a routine paint and polish to replacing through-hulls, overhauling damaged running gear or fixing major grounding damage. We do most of our work from our shop on the Granville Island Boatyard, but in the shoulder and off-seasons we can do any haulout work at any yard in the Lower Mainland.

If your boat is in False Creek, we’re happy to deliver it to and from the lift if it’s hard to fit into your schedule.

Bottom paint is what usually drives haulout timing, but we often find that while boats are out of the water other repairs can be made, saving costly work and unnecessary haulouts down the road. Because we inspect hundreds of boats a year, we we are adept at spotting and fixing underwater problems — worn or damaged cutless bearings, corroded through-hulls, leaking hull-keel joints — with an eye to getting boats back in the water for as long as possible.

More and more often, we give our customers sufficiently good antifouling and wax that they can haul their boats every two or three years instead of annually, saving time and money over the long run. This also allows you to haul out outside of the cruising season, so the yard is less crowded and the pressure is off, and you don’t miss out on any sailing time. Often there are off-season discounts as well.

On the other hand, there are a few things that many people would expect to haul out for that can in fact be done in the water. We’ve extended the life of many antifouling paint jobs by cleaning boats in the water at the right time, and in addition to changing just about every kind of sacrificial anode, we’ve also removed, repaired, and reinstalled rudders and props, and even changed through-hulls, underwater. See our diving page for more details.
